Beschreibung

The main concern of this book is to tackle exaggeration pragmatically in two representative novels. One is British and the second is American. These two novels are: Mrs. Dalloway and The Great Gatsby. Now we want to share what we have learned with you. This book is an attempt to develop a model for the analysis of exaggeration pragmatically. Thus, it concerns itself with achieving the following aims: investigating the kinds of speech acts through which exaggeration occurs in Mrs. Dalloway and The Great Gatsby, specifying the kind(s) of speech act(s) which is/are highly used in these two novels, identifying the devices of exaggeration used in these novels, specifying the exaggeration device(s) which is/are mostly employed, showing how exaggerators pragmatically proceed the Politeness Principle and the Cooperative Principle in Mrs. Dalloway and The Great Gatsby novels, figuring out the pragmatic functions of exaggeration in those novels, highlighting the pragmatic functions of exaggeration which are extremely used in Mrs. Dalloway and The Great Gatsby novels, figuring out whether the British English or the American English is more exaggerated than the other.
