The novelty of the scientific work lies in the fact that for the first time the principles of embodiment of infernal fairytale images with ambivalent characteristics in the works of composers of the Russian school are revealed. The material of the research was such canvases of Russian symphonic, opera music as: the symphonic fantasy "Night on Bald Hill" (1867) by M.P. Musorgsky under the editorship of N.A. Mironov. Rimsky-Korsakov's play "The Hut on the Chicken Legs" from the cycle "Pictures at an Exhibition" (1874) by M.P. Mussorgsky orchestrated by M.Ravel (1922); the scene "Night on Mount Triglav" from the opera ballet "Mlada" (1889) by N.A. M.Mussorgsky. Rimsky-Korsakov; Picture to the Russian folk fairy tale for the big orchestra "Baba-Yaga" (1904), folk tale for the orchestra "Kikimora" (1909) by A.K. Lyadov; scene "Fatal Dance of Kocheyev's Kingdom" from the ballet "The Firebird" (1910) by I.F. Stravinsky. In addition, the material of the study was also literary and poetic works of domestic authors - A.S. Pushkin, M.Yu. Lermontov, N.V. Gogol, F.M. Dostoevsky, A.P. Chekhov, K.D. Balmont, A.K. Tolstoy, N.S. Leskov, M.A. Bulgakov and others, as well as the work of Russian painters - V.M. Vasnetsov, I.Y. Bilibin, S.V. Malyutin, M.A. Vrubel, etc.
